Verus Staff Recognized by DHS as Part of Innovative ESPC Team

9.9.17 // Verus Resource Management, Inc. (Verus) staff were recognized recently at a ceremony for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Directorate Management Awards, as part of a Coast Guard Yard Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) modification team.

The Yard ESPC team was honored with a Sustainable Practices Award in the Green Innovation category for exceptional leadership and work to develop and implement an innovation to promote the Administration’s sustainability priorities as reflected in EO 13693.

As a Department of Energy (DOE)-approved project facilitator, Verus assisted the Coast Guard award a $7 million ESPC modification that is estimated to avoid more than $700k in annual energy expenditures at the Coast Guard Yard through a combination of Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) and modifications to the on-site Renewable Energy Center.

Verus financial analysts helped the Coast Guard leverage the modification to refinance the original ESPC, saving an additional $1M over the life of the contract. The refinance is also a first for the Coast Guard. ECM will enhance industrial area conditions and employee comfort.  REC modifications will improve energy resilience across the region and have the potential to become one of the first DHS sites to export excess power back to the utility grid.
